Question 3. \nCadets are marching in a parade. There are 5 cadets in a row. What is the rule which gives the number of cadets, given the number of rows? (Use n for the number of rows.) \nAnswer: \nNumber of rows = n \nCadets in each row = 5 \nTherefore, total number of cadets = 5n.<\/p>\n
Question 4. \nIf there are 50 mangoes in a box, how will you write the total number of mangoes in terms of the number of boxes? (Use b for the number of boxes.) \nAnswer: \nNumber of boxes = b \nNumber of mangoes in each box = 50 \nTherefore, total number of mangoes = 50b.<\/p>\n
Question 5. \nThe teacher distributes 5 pencils per student. Can you tell how many pencils are needed, given the number of students? (Use s for the number of students.) \nAns. Number of students = s \nNumber of pencils to each student = 5 \nTherefore, total number of pencils needed are = 5s.<\/p>\n

Question 6. \nA bird flies i kilometer in one minute. Can you express the distance covered by the bird in terms of its flying time in minutes? (Use t for flying time in minutes.) \nAnswer: \nTime taken by bird = t minutes \nSpeed of bird = 1 km per minute \nTherefore, Distance covered by bird = speed \u00d7 time = 1 \u00d7 t = t km.<\/p>\n
Question 7. \nRadha is drawing a dot Rangoli (a beautiful pattern of lines joining dots with chalk powder. She has 9 dots in a row. How many dots will her Rangoli have for r rowrs? How many dots are there if there are 8 rows? If there are 10 rows? \nAnswer: \n \n1 row = 9 dots \nr rows = (9*r) dots \n= 9r dots \n8rows = 9*8 = 72dots \n10rows = 10*9 = 90dots<\/p>\n
Question 8. \nLeela is Radha\u2019s younger sister. Leela is 4 years younger than Radha. Can you write Leela\u2019s age in terms of Radha\u2019s age? Take Radha\u2019s age to be \u00d7 years. \nAnswer: \nRadhas age = x years \nTherefore, Leela\u2019s age = (x – 4) years<\/p>\n

Question 9. \nMother has made laddus. She gives some laddus to guests and family members; still 5 laddus remain. If the number of laddus mother gave away is l, how many laddus did she make? \nAnswer: \nNumber of laddus gave away = l \nNumber of laddus remaining = 5 \nTotal number of laddus = (l + 5)<\/p>\n
Question 10. \nOranges are to be transferred from larger boxes into smaller boxes. When a large box is emptied, the oranges from it fill two smaller boxes and still 10 oranges remain outside. If the number of oranges in a small box are taken to be x, what is the number of oranges in the larger box? \nAnswer: \nNumber of oranges in one box = x \nNumber of boxes = 2 \nTherefore, total number of oranges in boxes = 2x \nRemaining oranges =10 \nThus, number of oranges = 2x + 10<\/p>\n

Question 11. \n(a) Look at the following matchstick pattern of squares. The squares are not separate. Two neighbouring squares have a common match- stick. Observe the patterns and find the rule that gives the number of matchsticks in terms of the number of squares. (b) The given figure gives a matchstick pattern of triangles.
