These tanks are as large as a big room and are a part of the well-developed rooftop rainwater harvesting system. The tanks are usually constructed inside the main house or the courtyard. They are connected to the sloping roofs of the houses through a pipe. The rain falling on the rooftops travels down the pipe and is stored in these tanks.<\/p>\n<p>The first spell of rain is usually not collected as this water cleans the roofs and pipes. The rainwater from the subsequent showers is then collected.The rainwater collected in the tanks is used till the next rainfall making it an extremely reliable source of drinking water when all other sources are dried up, particularly in the summers. The rainwater is considered the purest form of natural water.
